HOWARD SHEPHERD
Howard was born in 1933 and raised on a mixed farm in Codrington, attended Mount Olive School and Campbellford High School. He operated a dairy farm from 1958 to 1987 and was a member of the Ontario Milk Marketing Board for 15 years.
Howard was elected to the Provincial Legislature from 1981 to 1987.
He was on the Hamilton Township Mutual Insurance Company Board of Directors fro 1989 to 2007.
During his career he has been a member ofthe Northumberland Junior Farmers, a member of the Warkworth Cooperative Services, Northumberland Hog Producers, Northumberland Federation of Agriculture, Northumberland Soil & Crop Improvement Association, Holstein Friesein Association of Canada, Chairman of the Northumberland Milk Committee, Vice-President and President of the Roseneath Agricultural Society, and Dairy Farmers of Canada.
During over 40 years of community involvement he as served 16 years on four different school boards including the North Brighton Township School Board from 1957-1958 and the Northumberland Newcastle School Board from 1969-1976 as Board Chairman from 1974-1976. Howard was a Councilor and Deputy Reeve ofAlnwick Township from 1976-1981 and Warden of Northumberland County in 1996-1997. He has been Chairman of the Pine Ridge Planning Authority, a Board member with the Victorian Order of Nurses, a member of the Cobourg Rotary Club, a member of the Lower Trent Conservation Authority, and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, a Shriner and, a member of Roseneath United Church and a Past Master of Percy Lodge.
