HON. LYLE VANLIEF
Lyle Vanclief's personal integrity, professional ethics and outstanding leadership throughout his career speaks volumes about a man who has devoted his life to agriculture. The qualities were evident in Lyle's participation as an active 4-H member, 4-H leader, Junior Farmer, President of his year at the Ontario Agricultural College and President of the Guelph Student Union Council. His leadership continued as President of Quinte Exhibition & Raceway, the Prince Edward County School Board, as the Ambassador for the Ontario 4-H Foundation and as a member of the Ontario Institute of Agrologists. The Vanclief family owned and operated WillowIeee Farms Limited, a 1600 acre diversified fruit, vegetable, grains, oilseeds and livestock operation. Lyle and Sharon received an Outstanding Young Farmer Award for Canada in 1983.
Lyle was elected as the Member of Parliament for Prince Edward-Hastings in 1988 and served over 15 years before retiring in 2004. He was appointed Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food in 1997 and dealt with many challenges including the first case of Mad Cow Disease, the development of the Agricultural Policy Framework and the Canadian Agricultural Income Stabilization Program.
