FRED R. MALLORY
1880-1964
Fred graduated from the Ontario Agricultural College at Guelph and farmed near Frankford Station in Hastings County. He and his brother Ed took over the family farm in 1906.
A third generation Holstein breeder, the Mallorys were the first generation to bring registered Holsteins to Hastings County.
In 1921, Fred was president of the Holstein Canada. He started the first consignment sales on Ontario and the second in Canada.
Many famous Holsteins were bred and raised by the Mallorys including May Echo Sylvia, This cow sold in 1912 to Senator A. C. Hardy, where she completed six world production records, In 1918 a son of the Sylvia cow sold for $106,000 to Carnation Farms. Also, a son of Sylvia headed up the Agassiz Experimental Farm in British Columbia.
Fred was active in his community and county, and was clerk treasurer for the Village of Stirling. He managed the lawn bowling club and enjoyed lawn bowing and skating.
