George Reynolds
George was born in Prince Edward County in 1927. He and his wife Beatrice (Wyatt) have five daughters and a son.
George began farming with his father west of Picton, later working with his brother Bruce until Bruce’s untimely death in 1970. Then George, his brother Larry and their nephew Lloyd Crowe formed Reynolds Brothers Incorporated. They specialized in canning crops and cash crops. Crops such as peas, tomatoes and pumpkins were grown for Baxter Canning Company.
When Baxter Canning went to the self-propelled pea harvesting machines, Reynolds Brothers bought a harvester. Baxter Canning sold to Hardy Foods and later Cobi Foods. When Cobi’s closed, they asked the brothers to harvest for their Ingersoll plant.
Reynolds Brothers now farm 5000 acres of corn, soybeans and wheat in Quinte area and also harvest over 6000 acres in near London.
George retired from active farming in 2011 He was on Hallowell Township Council for 13 years including being deputy reeve and reeve for two terms. He was Warden of Prince Edward County in 1985.
He has been very active in the Pentecostal Church in Picton, helping to build a bible school, Harmony House, a retired seniors building in Picton as well as helping build a church in Cranbrook, British Columbia and mission projects in Guatemala, Brazil and Jamaica.
