Elmer Laver has always been involved in agriculture and the community. He purchased his first farm in1947 and married Dorothy Eagleson the following year.
He was been a member of the Northumberland Soil and Crop Improvement Association for over 40 years and was president in the late 1950s. He worked closely with the Ontario Government crop specialists and hosted educational field days. He was a pioneer in weed control, and was the first to use fertilizer on potatoes, grain and corn.
In 1972, Elmer won the high yield corn competition with a yield of 156 bushels per acre.
Elmer was involved with the Eastern Ontario Vegetable Grower’s Cooperative, a director of Produce Processors Ltd., a zone director of the Ontario Egg Producers and a director of Warkworth Co-op.
Elmer is a member of St Pauls United Church, a life member of the Warkworth Community Service Club, Percy Township Council and was Deputy Reeve.
He enjoys his family, traveling, golf, and wood-working.
