PETER MACKINNON
Peter graduated from the Ontario Agricultural College in 1950. He returned to the family farm at Bath, Ontario that year and in 1951 began to grow pedigreed seed. By the 1970s he was growing and processing certified seed. Peter was a member and Chairman of the Ontario Wheat Board and later served on the Ontario Wheat Producers Marketing Board's Policy Definition Committee. In 1966 Peter received the Bank of Montreal's Canada Centennial Farm Leadership award and also that year he was appointed to the Crop Insurance Commission. He also worked for the Farm Credit Corporation in the early 1970s. He ran for the position of Member of Parliament in 1972.
Peter served as chair of the local Ontario Soil and Crop Improvement Association and also served on the Board of the Ontario Seed Growers Association.
In the 1970s, he was appointed to the Canadian Consumers Council and was a member of the Eastern Standards Committee of the Canadian Grain Commission.
