LELAND WANNAMAKER
1917-1990
Leland Wannamaker was bom in Hastings County and moved to Napanee in 1941. His Oak Acres farm grew to 50 milking cows and 385 acres.
In 1948, he was a founding member of the Napanee District Co-op. Leland served as a Director of the Lennox and Addington Soil and Crop Improvement Association, as Provincial Director of the Ontario Soil and Crop Improvement Association from 1962-1973 and its President in 1974.
Leland was a founding member of the L & A Milk Committee and Region 4 Provincial Director of the Ontario Milk Marketing Board from 1980-1988.
He was appointed to the Ontario Hydro Agriculture Working Committee, a Trustee of the North Fredericksburgh School Board and a member of the Ontario Federation of Agriculture and the Holstein Association of Canada.
In 1965, Leland received the Harris McNish Award for Outstanding Leadership in Agriculture in Eastem Ontario. In 1967 he received the Centennial Medal for his contribution to agriculture and in 1968 was named one of the top 100 Outstanding Contributors to Ontario agriculture. Leland along with his son received a Holstein Master Breeders Award in 1989.
