DOUGLAS TIPPER
1919-2004
Doug Tipper was bom in Huntsville, served in World War II, attended the Ontario Agricultural College and began his career in agriculture as a CBC Farm Reporter in Halifax.
In 1950 Doug joined the Department of Agriculture in Ontario, first in Walkerton, then in Huntsville and finally in Stirling as Agricultural Representative for over 20 years.
Doug was involved in a number of cheese co-operatives developing business plans and assisting in obtaining funds for their development.
He took great pride in helping fathers/sons develop successful partnerships, supportng the 4-H programs in the county, and encouraging the four counties in the Quinte area to work together for the betterment of farming and agriculture in the area.
Doug was strongly involved in sports partcularily hockey and lacrosse as a youth and continued this support as a coach and played until his mid 50s. He firmly believed in the importance of education and encouraged all he assisted and worked with throughout his career to further their education. Doug was a member of the Quinte Branch of the Ontario Institute of Agrologists, the Rotary and his local Church and was a Director, Secretary and Chair of many farm organizations.
As well as his involvement in sports and local organizations, Doug was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed his Boom Island Hunt Camp.
