ELMER DURLING McFAUL
1927-2002
Elmer began farming in 1934 with his father on a mixed farm raising and producing horses, sheep, dairy cattle, laying hens, pigs, tomatoes, peas sweet corn and pumpkins over his distinguished farming career.
He developed his farm into a leading edge food corporation and exemplified the flexibility, innovation, evolution and mechanization of agriculture in the Quinte area.
Elmer was always ready to share his expertise with others. His sharing included over 50 years in the Masonic and Eastern Star Lodges, the Wellington United Church as a member, Sunday School teacher, superintendent and elder, a member of the Prince Edward Federation of Agriculture, Prince Edward Milk Producers, Prince Edward Wheat and Corn Producers and Prince Edward Vegetable Growers.
He pioneered many innovations to food production in the Quinte area including a mechanical sweet corn harvester, the first mechanical raspberry harvester in Canada, new weed control programs for sweet corn, spray equipment for insect control and modern mechanized manure management and egg collection systems for poultry production.
Elmer is an Honourary Member of the Ontario Institute of Agrologists.
His Town Line Farms grew to employ over 100 employees, farmed 6,000 acres and produced green and wax beans, peas and sweet corn.
