CLARENCE A. MILLIGAN
1904-1991
Clarence farmed in Lennox and Addington county at Napanee, first on a 100 acre farm and then on a 300 acre farm.
Through his participation in workshops, conferences and seminars he became an accomplished speaker, and was active in local organizations including the Soil and Crop Association, Hog Producers, Federation of Agriculture, Beef Producers and the Milk Marketing Board.
In municipal politics during the forties, fifties, sixties and seventies he served as councilor, deputy reeve, reeve and became Warden of the county in 1951.
In June 1957, Clarence won a seat in the Federal Parliament, was re- elected in 1958 and during his term he served as Chair of the Agriculture Committee in the Diefenbaker government.
Clarence was L&A’s Director on the provincial Cattlemen’s Association, served on the executive of the Ontario Pork Producers, was President of the Ontario Federation of Agriculture in 1952-53 and a Director of the Canadian Federation of Agriculture.
In 1953, Clarence was one of a group of Canadian farmers who toured nine European countries to study farm practices and organizations.
